VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

ST. VINCENT dePAUL

The St. Vincent dePaul Society at St. Thomas More Parish and St. Francis of Assisi Parish are organizing a “Friends of the Poor Walk” Fundraiser to take place on September 26 in our area of the South Shore. The committee is chaired by Paul Boback and Kathleen O’Connell. The Friends of the Poor Walk is a simultaneous, nationwide event to raise national awareness of the challenges faced by the nation’s poor and to raise funds for use in direct service of those in need. All funds raised locally will be used locally.

In these trying economic times we want to acknowledge and thank you, the very generous parishioners of St. Thomas More Parish! If you or anyone you know is in need of food, please do not hesitate to contact the rectory between 9 and 5 Monday through Friday to make an appointment to come on a Wednesday evening. God bless you!

ST. VINCENT dePAUL FOOD PANTRY
During the summer months, donations are needed more than ever. PLEASE remember to bring something for our Food Pantry each time you come to Mass.

  • WHICH SUNDAY OF THIS MONTH IS YOUR ST. VINCENT dePAUL REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY?
  • Keep in mind that we will always receive with gratitude and appreciation:
      • Nonperisable foods for food pantry
      • Donations in envelopes in Church
      • Good used Clothing in the St.Vincent dePaul bins behind Church
      • Due to the difficulty in processing and getting centers to take glass, we can no longer accept glass. However, we greatly appreciate your donations of cans & plastic. Please do not bring GLASS BOTTLES to the bottle and can drop-off center. Cans and plastic bottles are still needed!

COFFEE HOURS
The after-Mass opportunities to have a cup of coffee or juice and a munchkin or two with one another provide an opportunity to share with one another
and enjoy one another’s company.
We are enormously grateful to those thoughtful people who are willing to host these opportunities. Very willingly they pick up the munchkins, make the coffee and punch, lay out the munchkins and clean up afterwards.
We would not want their generous efforts to go unnoticed or be unappreciated. Those who have served us during this past year are Marie Anderson, Joe Blushi, Laura Blushi, Sarah Blushi, Kay Buckley, Kay Harrington, Ann Marie McCaffrey, Chris McQuillan, Mary Mullin and Rosemary Sarnie.
Thank you to each of these caring people for thinking of us.
Perhaps you could offer as an individual or as a family to host a coffee time when we resume in the Fall. To do so just call Ginny Aitken at the rectory or send an email to her.

PRAY FOR YOUR PRIESTS

During this Year for Priests, The Vocation Office is happy to announce that the Serra Boston Vocation Club is initiating the “Adopt-a-Priest Apostolate” where Faithful throughout the Archdiocese spiritually adopt a priest presently working in the Archdiocese of Boston for one year.
Those participating are given (by random in a sealed envelope) the name of a priest presently living or working in the Archdiocese, prayer cards and a prayer booklet and are asked to pray for the particular intentions and ministry of that priest.
This is a great way to support our Priests and to promote a Culture of Vocations. Would you please consider this important prayer mission?
For more information or to be assigned a priest of the Archdiocese to pray for on a daily basis, please call 978-462-1057 (ask for Loretta Gallagher-President of Serra) or go to www.serraboston.org or www.vocationboston.org.

BOTTLES AND CANS MINISTRY
We are looking for help with the organizing, cleaning and sorting of the cans and plastic bottles collected in the bins in the church parking lot. It takes about an hour a week to keep up with the donations. The monies collected are used by the St. Vincent dePaul Society to provide assistance to those in need. YOUR help will have an impact and be very much appreciated. Please call the Rectory to volunteer.

ISLAND AT CAPEN’S CIRCLE

Many thanks to those who care for the island and keep it beautiful. Additional help would always be welcome. Call the rectory if you have some time to "garden".

PINE STREET MINISTRY
SINCE 1979, (31 YEARS) OUR PARISH HAS BEEN BRINGING MEALS INTO PINE STREET, BOSTON ON THE FOURTH TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH TO FEED THE LADIES OF THE WOMENS DIVISION OF PINE STREET. WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE, BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP. IT ONLY INVOLVES 2 TO 2 ½ HOURS EVERY 3 MONTHS. A TEAM CONSISTS OF A DRIVER AND TWO SERVERS WHO BRING IN THE FOOD PREPARED BY OTHERS. WE ALWAYS NEED VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE SHEPHERD’S PIE, BAKE DESSERTS AND DONATE TOWARD THE FRESH FRUIT. FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO VOLUNTEER, PLEASE CALL THE RECTORY AND THEY WILL PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH SOMEONE. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE.

WE EXTEND OUR GRATITUDE TO ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERS AND TO THE ST. THOMAS MORE PRAYER COMMUNITY WHO SUPPORTS THE GROUP'S EFFORTS.

FAMILY LITURGY

Hey Kids, Got Time?
Would you like to be a Special Guest at our 10:30 a.m. Family Liturgy?
What is YOUR Special Talent?
Are you a good reader?
Maybe you would like to be a guest lector
Do you have a great smile?
Maybe you would like to be a greeter
Do you enjoy moving around?
Maybe you would like to be an usher or bring up the gifts
Host classes are needed for Family Liturgy Masses. If you can help, please call the Religious Education Office at 781-843-2142.

JUST A REMINDER – that we would encourage all of the young people who come to the Family Masses on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month at 10:30AM to bring one (1) food item for our Parish FOOD PANTRY. The objective here is to help the young people to learn that a part of celebrating God’s love for us is to thank Him by sharing with others some of what we have as a blessing from Him.

TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE

Is there is any way in which you would be willing to contribute some of your time and talent to the faith community of Saint Thomas More?
There are a certain number of things that must be done as basic to any parish community. Masses celebrated, baptisms administered as well as other sacraments, and religious education offered.
To do this and many other things that need to be done, we have to rely on parishioners who understand that the community relies on their willingness to be of service to it through sharing their time and talent.
We ask you to let us know if you feel that you could be of assistance to us in any of the areas that we have listed on the form or if you have any other way, just jot it down on the form and get it back to us.
Be assured that whatever you can do will be helpful and appreciated.
